MARTIN WINS AT ASSEN AND TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD
The Cathedral of motorcycle racing witnessed the fourth win of the year of Jorge Martin, who despite still limping with bruised foot due to a crash on Friday’s free practice, he is going home with twenty-five important points for the title chase of the quarter-litre class.
The standard bearer of Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3tried to pull away from pole position but was caught by four other riders, and only with three laps to go – maybe also courtesy of some indecision from his rivals – he took matters into his own hands and created enough gap to secure the win at the Dutch venue.
With 105 points in the standings and an unfortunate tumble by former leader Bezzecchi, the youngster from Madrid returns on top of the championship standings.
No glory for Fabio Di Giannantonio: the Italian struggled to get up to speed around the Assen track and soon lost touch with the leaders. His ninth place is surely not a result to be happy of for the Italian rider, who is still in contention for the ultimate prize – and now 14 points away from the top.
